Depending on the material to be removed and geometrical accuracies
desired on the component, determines the depth of cut.

Depending on job configuration and geometrical accuracies desired on the component, determine the insert shape, nose radius and operating feed rate.

 

Considering the maximum allowable depth of cut for different insert shapes/size, select the insert size for the depth of cut desired

 

For the depth of cut and
feed rate combination,
select the appropriate WIDIA
chipbreaker

   For the depth of cut and feed rate
combination, if two or more WIDIA chip
breakers are suitable, select two WIDIA
   chipbreakers whose lower diagonal
  portion is closest to the depth of cut
      and feed rate combination

In case of clean cut or
light  interruption,select
WIDIA chip breaker
with least edge strength

In case of heavy
interruptions and forging
scales,select the WIDIA
chipbreaker with
greater edge strength

 

Select the WIDALON coated grade such that the mid point of the range of
     cutting speed of the grade is closest to the operating cutting speed.

 

In case of roughing cut
or light interruptions,
select the WIDIA
chipbreaker and
grade combination
  For clean and continous cut,use the next higher wear resistantWIDALON
  coated grade

  For forging scales
    and heavy 
interruptions,use the
    next tougher  WIDALON coated
         grade

PLEASE ENSURE

For the
nose radius
selected
ensure that
the operating
feed rate
does not
exceed the
maximum
permissible
feed rate


Ensure that
the effective
cutting edge
length for
the insert
shape/size/
chipbreaker
combination
does not
exceed the operating
depth of cut
