In order to use an indexable system for the optimum
results, the following points must be kept in mind:
- While setting a toolholder, the overhang should not be more than the height of
toolholder. This will restrict vibrations of tool and give better surface finish and tool
life.
- While tightening the clamp screw, please do not use an extension pipe. Tightening by
hand is adequate. the insert should be pressed against the side faces of the seating in
the toolholder.
- When indexing an insert to provide a new cutting edge, care must be taken that tiny
chips etc., are removed from the insert seating.
- Built-up edges on the insert if any should be levelled before indexing the insert.
- If the shim gets damaged, index the corner of the shim or replace the shim without any
delay. This protects your toolholder.
- Change the other spare parts of the toolholder also in time. In case the
toolholder has been damaged, it is better to change the toolholder to avoid breakage of
the inserts.
SAFETY
Although metal cutting tools are designed and manufactured to withstand high mechanical
and thermal stresses, it is necessary that safety precautions are to be kept in mind while
working with or nearby metal cutting tools and machinery. Safety eyeglass with side
shields, protective clothing and machine tool guards are essential while working with
characteristically brittle carbide cutting tools |

Machining involves the creation
of chips or swarf which is that portion of the metal removed from the workpeice during a
metal cutting application. The chips formed but not segmented properly, elongated and
uncontrollable may cause injury to the operator. Though with the use of inserts with
sintered chipbreaker, chips can be formed into a characteristically shaped '6' or other,
safe and controllable arrangements should be made to take care of chips produced at
variable cutting conditions and workpiece materials.
NOTES
- Toolholders, Boring bars, Cartridges etc., covered by this catalogue are supplied
without inserts. However, the necessary spares as detailed against each item will be
supplied duly mounted.
- Toolholders and inserts explained in this catalogue are also suitable for use on all
makes of CNC turning centres. For your requirements of flexible tooling for CNC turning
and machining centres please refer to our catalogue 'WIDAFLEX UTS Universal tooling system
and CNC solid tooling system'.
- The data and dimensions given in this catalogue are for guidance purpose only and are
subject to change without prior notice. the products will be manufactured as per
manufacturer's drawing and tolerances.
- This supersedes our earlier publication No.WMC-071-94.
